Staying Up to Date on Vaccines
Did your child(ren) miss vaccines during the stay-at-home order? Children in Michigan received 21.5% fewer vaccines during January-April 2020 compared to 2018 and 2019. We want your children to be protected. We want you to get caught up.
Vaccines are safe and protect us from many diseases. It is easy to think these diseases are long gone. Whooping cough and measles are just two vaccine preventable diseases out in the community. Parts of Southeastern Michigan had a measles outbreak as recently as last year. What keeps us safe from these diseases is timely vaccination. While protecting ourselves from COVID-19, we still need to prevent outbreaks of other diseases. We especially need to be protected against influenza this fall so we don’t have both COVID-19 and influenza going around at the same time. We understand you may be nervous about going into the doctor’s office, but please call your pediatrician’s office to make an appointment. Feel free to ask about the precautions they are taking to keep their staff and patients safe.
Some questions you can ask:
- What physical distancing measures are being taken to protect both me and my child?
- Will my child and I be expected to wear a face mask during the visit?
- What if I do not have a mask, will you be able to supply one for me and my child?
- Can I accompany my child into the exam room?
